About this conference

GDC is the working professional gathering for the video game industry, covering programming, design, art, audio, production and business, with the Independent Games Festival and the Game Developers Choice Awards held during the week. Recent editions have drawn roughly 25,000 attendees. The official GDC site lists March 1-5, 2027 at Moscone Center in San Francisco. Passes are tiered rather than sold at one price: cheaper tiers cover the expo floor and a limited slice of sessions, while summit and all-access tiers open the specialist summits that run at the start of the week. Rates rise as the show approaches, so registering early matters. Talks are recorded and later surface in the GDC Vault. This is a business and recruiting event, not a consumer show; for playing games as a fan, PAX is the relevant event.
