Sundance is the leading US showcase for independent film, premiering roughly 90-100 features plus shorts and episodic work, and it has historically drawn 70,000+ in-person attendees. The 2027 edition is the first since the move away from Park City, running January 21-31 across the Boulder Theater, Dairy Arts Center, Chautauqua Auditorium and the CU Boulder campus. It works on two levels at once: a public festival where anyone can buy tickets, and a working acquisitions market where distributors, agents and press chase the same premieres. Pass packages go on sale months ahead and the higher tiers carry earlier ticket selection; individual tickets are released closer to the festival, and sold-out screenings run a waitlist. Films are spread across the town, so allow travel time between venues and expect winter weather.
