Gen Con is the largest tabletop gaming convention in North America, drawing roughly 70,000 unique attendees for board games, role-playing games and miniatures alongside a large exhibit hall and tens of thousands of scheduled game events. The 2027 convention runs August 5-8 across the Indiana Convention Center, Lucas Oil Stadium and participating downtown hotels. The structure that catches newcomers is event registration: individual games and seminars are ticketed separately from the badge and go on sale on a single announced day months ahead, when the sought-after tables fill within minutes. Generic tickets can be exchanged for open seats on site, and unscheduled open gaming runs throughout. Downtown hotels are allocated through a housing portal that opens earlier still, and the closest ones connect to the convention centre by skywalk.
