About this conference

SXSW EDU is the education strand of South by Southwest, and it behaves like a festival as much as a conference: sessions, film screenings, competitions and a policy-heavy programme running across downtown Austin hotels rather than a single convention centre. The audience mixes educators, district and university leaders, policymakers, non-profit staff, edtech founders and investors, which makes it stronger for cross-sector conversation than for classroom-level professional development. Part of the session lineup is chosen through SXSW's community voting process. For 2027 it moves to the first weekend of SXSW, running March 13-16 across the Hilton Austin, Austin Marriott Downtown and the JW Marriott, with the EDU Clubhouse at Antone's Nightclub. Accommodation is worth booking early, as Austin hotel rates climb steeply once the wider festival begins.
